Microsoft Windows Operating System Maintenance:

                    Disk Cleanup
                    Disk Defragmenter
                    Windows Update

Windows Update can be found under "Programs".  Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter can be found by going to "Programs", "Accessories" and then "System Tools".  They are all part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System, non-destructive and aid in maintaining a secure, stable environment.  Last but not least is Antivirus...A MUST HAVE!  I have found Microsoft Security Essentials to be an effective antivirus program (in most cases) that is available at no charge (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5201).  Microsoft also offers an online scanner at no charge as well (http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx).  Microsoft has introduced a "FREE" online assistant named "Fix it" to help correct some Window software and hardware issues as they arise (http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/).

If you encounter a popup, website or are directed to an undesired website simple press the "Ctrl" - "Alt" - "Del" keys (holding them down in the specified order together) then click "Start Task Manager" and "Windows Task Manager" will open. Click on the applications tab and highlight the item or program then click on "End Task". This will close the undesired popup, web page or program. NEVER click on the window or item itself. This will assist in preventing unwanted results or issues (i.e. malware, viruses, system lockups, etc.).

Apple has "FREE" support downloads for your products software and hardware (http://support.apple.com/downloads/) Yes, your Apple product can get a virus and there are "FREE" antivirus programs available (http://www.security-faqs.com/the-top-5-antivirus-programs-for-the-apple-mac.html) unless you insist on paying for it...which you can find those through the previous link as well.
